After my two children moved out our house, and one just married a month ago, it does not make sense for us to keep 4bedrooms 2.5bathroom, with swimming pool(none swim in the pool anymore) 2400SQFT, with 10000 SQFT lot. We thought we keep our house for our children, but they do not want it. I guess they rather have solid cash instead of house.
Yes, they are right. When parents are reaching retirement age, it is good idea to consider moving smaller house or condo, even rental apartment instead keeping larger house for several reasons.
- To get rid of excess items (sometime called junk)
- Relieved yourself from mortgage, and tax, and maintenance.(No more your own house slave)
- Keep your extra money after you sell your house, and live and manage your retirement fund and enjoy your life
- Minimize personal items(junk) make your life easy and easier for your children at the end of your life
- Less house cleaning, less utilities maintenance fee.
- Let your children to have entertainment for holidays.
Slim down your space is healthy way, just like slim down your body.
Well I have lots to go for both my space and body.
